Many of the Chilean miners visiting the US have accused the 27 New Zealand miners, recently trapped underground, of stealing their lime light. We talked to one Chilean miner while he was visiting the world’s largest ball of twine in Darwin, Minnesota. We asked Carlos for more insight of what the accusations were. While still mesmerized by the largest ball of twine, he told us though a translator,
We believe the New Zealand miners are jealous of our new found fame and trapped themselves in the mine to gain sympathy. They also know we have been invited with all expense paid trips to the United States, the Vatican, Sandals Resorts and many other countries. We think they want to also be invited to the United States to see the amazing accomplishments like the Mustang Ranch and the world’s largest Shasta can in Hayward, California, not to mention the many other technological achievements in the US.
We also talked to another Chilean miner visiting Branson, Missouri, who was taking in our fine American culture. We asked him his thoughts of the New Zealander miners.
I think they are also trying to make a name for themselves in the new guys trapped in the mine trend. They just want to copy us so they can come and drink your Starbucks from pure gold cups like we always hear about.
The trend doesn’t seem to be only in New Zealand. There are many stories coming to light of people around the world trapping themselves in mines, old refrigerators, garbage cans, trunks of cars and even some people who claim to be trapped in time to try to get a piece of the action. One man in Beijing contacted the US Embassy claiming his fingers were caught in a Chinese finger trap and would like the American tax payers to give him an all expense paid trip to see the United States and its roads paved in gold. Oh, he also wanted to be paid for interviews and possible a book deal.
Where will it stop? Will people start doing other life threatening things to get an all expense trip paid for by the American tax payers?!
